Murdoch's Home and Ranch Supply

I was going to skip Murdoch's but was on my way back to the Pilot to prepare for departure and it was right there, so I stopped.

The amazing and fantastic blogger Suzanne McMinn found love in the aisles of the Tractor Supply Company, and it crossed my mind that if it could happen for her, well then . . . .My friend Charlotte had this big fantasy for me that I might meet a hot trucker in Wyoming who would sweep me off my feet and carry me away to his ranch where I would raise chickens and horses while he was on the road and then we'd burn up the bed sheets every time he came home from one of those long hauls. You do meet a lot of truckers at the Pilot and the Flying J. . . .

Well, anyway.  I had read on the Murdoch's website that they had RealTree camo purses.  That was enough for me.

Their motto is, "If we don't have it, you don't need it."  They are probably right.

When I went in the door, the first thing that hit me was the marvelous smell.  It was like all the things I loved when I was a horse crazy teenager rolled up in one bouquet:  saddle leather, animal feed, blue jeans, fertilizer and hardware.

Did I mention purses?

Did I mention camo purses . . . .pink camo purses?

There's a whole section of Breyer horse stuff.  I had to take firm hold of myself when I saw the Breyer horse trailer.  I wanted to buy one of everything, the stable accessory kit, the farm yard friends, each hand painted genuine Breyer horse model.  It was an aisle to make all horse loving girls swoon.  In the very next aisle were plumbing supplies.  Is that not brilliant?  Dad doesn't need to worry about his little girl wandering.  Just park her in the Breyer aisle and she'll be there when he's done buying PVC pipe cement and three quarter to half inch reducing bushings for the irrigation lines.

I remember these from hardware stores of my youth.  I haven't seen this kind of nail bin in a long time.

Meet Molly.

She asked me if I needed help finding anything while I was taking a picture of the nail bin.  I told her I had just stopped by on my trip to Indiana to check out their amazing store, since I had nothing like it back home.  She seemed pleased to hear it.  I told her about how the smell of the store was so awesome, how it was the distillation of most of what I'd loved when I got my first horse, like a tack shop and feed store and western wear store all rolled into one.  Her face lit up, and she told me that when she interviewed for the job, her boss to be asked her what her favorite thing was about Murdoch's.  Without hesitation, she told him the smell.  He said that was a new one to him.  Maybe it's a girl thing, but Molly and me know.  Anyway, she got the job, so it must have been a good answer.

Stuff for horse people is cool.

Murdoch's has housewares, gifts, jewelry, boots, hats, snacks, lariats, tack, pet supplies . . . .Well, you get the picture.  Did I mention the purses?  Go to Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply if you visit Cheyenne.  If they don't have it, you don't need it.
